10 Tips for Taking Awesome Camera Photos for Beginners
It can be difficult to figure out how to take awesome camera photos
when you’re just starting out, but with these 10 tips you’ll learn exactly how
to do it! Step-by-step instructions will show you how to use the different
features of your camera to take photos that look great and make everyone
jealous! With this information, you’ll be able to start taking pictures like a
pro in no time at all!
1) Use Good Lighting
Good lighting is key to taking great photos. A photo taken in the
shade might not have enough light, while a photo taken in direct sunlight may be
too bright. For best results, shoot your subject when the sun is behind them or
in front of them at a 45-degree angle.
Keep Your Distance (three sentences)
The best rule of thumb is to keep your subject five feet away from
you so that they can fill the frame without being distorted by camera
distortion. If they're too close, their nose will look like it's twice its size
and their ears will stick out like dog ears. Use Different Angles: Try getting
up high with your subject and taking a shot straight down on them to see how
this changes the perspective and makes things look different. Shoot Up Close:
If you want to capture someone's facial expressions or catch details on
clothing, get right up close and personal with your subjects. Zoom In: It's
easy to forget about zooming in!
2) Get Close to Your Subject
One of the most important tips for taking good camera photos is
getting close to your subject. This will give you a sense of depth and allow
your viewer to see more detail in the photo. If you are trying to take a photo
of a person, make sure that they fill the frame completely and that they are
not cut off at the bottom or on one side. If you are taking a photo of
something stationary like food, flowers, or jewelry make sure that it fills up
as much of the frame as possible so there is room for nothing else around
it. When shooting portraits in
particular, it's always best to get as close as possible without being
intrusive.
3) Use the Rule of Thirds
The Rule of Thirds is one of the most fundamental concepts in
photography. It states that an image should be imagined as divided into nine
equal parts by two equally-spaced vertical and two equally-spaced horizontal
lines, with four points where the lines intersect being called power points.
The power points are typically thought of as being on the outside edges of a
square, then each corner of this square is a power point too. An important
consideration when using the rule of thirds is to place important or
interesting parts of your subject matter at or near these intersections.
Some common mistakes include centering your subject matter or placing it too close to the edge of the frame. These types of photos are typically not aesthetically pleasing because they contain more empty space than necessary, which takes away from their aesthetic value.
4) Use a Tripod
Tripods are a great way to take clear, well-lit photos that don't have blur from shaking. This can be especially helpful when you are taking photos at night or in low light.
1. Use a tripod - When taking pictures, use the timer on the camera to avoid shaking your camera and getting blurry pictures. 2. Put an object in the foreground of your picture - Putting an object in the foreground of your photo will make it stand out more and give it more depth. 3. Find something interesting to shoot - If you're not sure what to photograph, just find something interesting like a graffiti mural, a tree with leaves changing colors, or people enjoying themselves on the beach 4. Capture motion by using slow shutter speed - To capture motion as it's happening (like someone jumping), try using a slow shutter speed
5) Experiment with Different Angles
The best way to learn how to take awesome photos is to experiment with different angles. Take a picture of something straight on, then tilt the camera up or down. Try taking a picture from the side and see how it changes the photo. Experiment with different distances and focal lengths too! See what happens when you get really close to your subject or really far away. Experimenting like this will help you figure out which angle looks best in any situation. It's also helpful because some perspectives are better than others depending on what you're trying to show people. For example, if there's someone else in the photo it may be better to put them closer instead of farther away.
6) Use Different Lenses
One of the most important things to do when it comes to learning how to take better pictures is to use different lenses. Different lenses will give you a new perspective and can help you see your subject in a way that you might not have noticed before. Here are some of our favorite lens options: telephoto, wide angle, macro, and telephoto zoom. For beginners we recommend either the 55-300mm (good option if you want to be able to get close up shots) or 18-105mm kit lens (wide angle). You'll also need a sturdy tripod if you're going with either one of these lenses.
7) Play with Aperture, Shutter Speed, and ISO
Learning how to use these three settings can help you take better photos. Aperture refers to the size of the opening in the lens, shutter speed is a measure of how long the camera's shutter remains open, and ISO is a measure of light sensitivity. The more light-sensitive your camera is (higher ISO), the faster your aperture and shutter speed need to be set in order to capture enough light.
8) Take Lots of Pictures
Take lots of pictures. Seriously, take as many shots as you can. You never know what will work and what won't, so it's best to let the editing process sort that out later. Plus, the more photos you have to choose from when it comes time to edit the better your final product will be. Some cameras allow you to shoot continuously which means you don't need to worry about framing each individual shot perfectly; this is a great feature if it's something your camera has.
It may seem intimidating at first but don't worry too much about getting every single shot right on the first try because with practice and experimenting with different settings, there will come a point where it all becomes second nature.
9) Edit Your Pictures
1. Once you take a picture, you'll want to edit it right away. You can do this on your phone by using the Instagram app or on your computer with programs like Photoshop. One of the best ways to edit a picture is to crop it and adjust the contrast, saturation, and sharpness. For example, if you need to brighten up your photo, increase the brightness. If there's too much light in a photo, reduce the exposure.
